KUWAITI FM VISITS U.A.E. TO CONTINUE MEDIATION TOUR OVER GULF STANDOFF

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday, to continue his current mediation tour, aimed at ending a standoff between Qatar and the Arab Quartet.

Sheikh Sabah held a meeting with UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, during which he handed him a letter, addressed to the UAE’s President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, from the Kuwaiti Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The letter “is related to relations, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) process, and the latest developments in the region.”

Both Kuwait and the UAE are members of the GCC, which also includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar.

Before visiting the UAE, the Kuwaiti foreign minister already visited Saudi Arabia and Egypt, carrying a letter from the Kuwaiti Amir to the Saudi king and Egyptian president, respectively.

Kuwait has been mediating between the Saudi-led Arab quartet, which also includes the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain, and Qatar, in an attempt to end their diplomatic rift.

No breakthrough has been achieved, despite the intensified mediation efforts, made not only by Kuwait, but also by the United States, European Union, as well as Turkey
