Putin: “provocateurs” behind drone attack on Russian military bases

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that unnamed “provocateurs” were responsible for a recent drone attack on two Russian military bases in Syria, which aims to undermine Moscow’s relations with Turkey and Iran.

“There were some provocateurs, but they were not Turks. We know who they are, who paid who for this provocation and what the actual sum was,” he told local media.

“These are provocations aimed at destroying previous agreements,” Putin added, in relation to Russia’s relations with Turkey and Iran.

“We understand it perfectly well so we will work together,” he said.

The Russian leader suggested that the drones used in the attack were disguised as homemade but were in fact manufactured with “high-tech equipment.” The January 6 drone attack targetted facilities in Hmeymim and Tartus, and was said at the time to have been controlled by terrorists, according to Russia’s Defence Ministry
