RAMALLAH, Some 450 Jewish settlers stormed Al-Aqsa mosque on first day of Eid Al-Adha on Sunday with escort of Israeli troops that engaged in clashes with Palestinians inside the mosque.
Employees at the Islamic Al-Awqaf Department told journalists that 450 settlers in groups burst into the mosque early today, challenging Palestinian worshippers who chanted “Allaho Akbar (Allah is Great)” in response to the settlers’ provocative acts.
The department said in a press release that the occupation forces detained a young Palestinian as he was existing the mosque via Al-Qatanin gate. They took him away after beating him.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent said in a statement its medics treated 61 Palestinians who were injured in the clashes with the Israeli troops, adding that 15 of them were sent to hospitals.
The Israeli personnel showered the Palestinian congregants with a hail of rubber-coated bullets, concussion grenades and tear gas.
