Algeria announces new cabinet lineup

ALGIERS, Algeria has announced the lineup of its new cabinet led by Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad.

The new government is made up of 39 members, including seven deputy ministers and four secretaries of State, Presidential Spokesman Belaid Mohand Oussaid said in a televised statement.

The cabinet also includes five women ministers.

Eight ministers of the former government have retained their own posts, while the defense portfolio has been scrapped, he said.

The youngest deputy minister is in charge of Start-ups, namely Yacine Walid (26 years old), the spokesman added.

The fresh cabinet encompasses Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabri Boukadoum, Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning Kamel Beldjoud, Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals Belkacem Zeghmati, Minister of Finance Abderahmane Raouya and Minister of Energy Mohamed Arkab, Abdelaziz Djerad on Saturday was appointed Prime Minister, replacing Sabri Boukadoum, who had been the acting prime minister after the resignation of Nouredine Bedoui.
