Algeria leader dissolves lower parliament house, calls snap vote

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has signed a decree to dissolve the lower house of parliament, paving the way for early legislative elections.

“We will make a change by giving a new life to the bodies of the state and parliament that will be the people’s voice,” he was quoted as saying in a statement on Sunday.

Tebboune has said that his decision to dissolve the lower house of parliament was part of a string of reforms that aim to “open the doors to young people.” He has already ordered a cabinet reshuffle that relieved some eight ministers of their posts, keeping Abdelaziz Djerad as prime minister.
