Australia hopes to beat Peru for chance at knockout stage

Australia will be meeting Peru Tuesday with their eyes focused on how to win to gain three points and score as many as goals as they could, while hoping France would beat Denmark in order to be second in Group C.

This will be the first ever encounter between Australia and Peru.

Australia has only one point and hope to beat Peru with a big margin. Their result will depend on the other clash in the group between France and Denmark.

France already qualified with six points under their belt. Denmark have four points and hope for a win or a draw to advance to knock-out stages.

“In the next game against Australia, we want to give a victory to the fans of Peru who trust us a lot,” Peru’s Anderson Santamaria said in press remarks.

Australia’s captain Mile Jedinak said Peru have “been a bit unfortunate in both their games” which they lost.

Peru, he added, qualified through “a very, very tough route in South America. They are here for a reason and they want to do well. But, we’re up for the challenge.” Australia’s last three World Cup goals came from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile, Group C leader France will play against Denmark, their second clash in previous World Cups.

France coach Didier Deschamps said his team has six points, so he would have liberty to examine individual situation of each player like who has yellow cards and how he would manage their playtime.

Denmark coach Age Hareide commended his players as the best he has worked with.

“We must try to play more calculating football against France. We can’t allow them as much room as we did against Australia,” he said.

Hareide added Denmark wanted to win against Australia and “therefore we allowed them more space to operate with than was our intention. Against Peru and Australia, we haven’t been able to control the ball very well in the final third and that is something we need to correct. We need to be much more balanced against France.” France’s Paul Pogba said “Denmark is a beautiful team with quality players … We want to be first, they want to be first. It’s going to be a wonderful match
