“We are coordinating with the Ras al-Khaimah Planning Department to identify possible options for diverting sections of the ring road that pass, according to original plan, through ancient sites,” said Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the PIFC.
“The original design of the road took into account avoiding agricultural, lands, properties and archaeological sites, including an ancient burial site in Sih Al Harf area. The design also sought to reduce environmental impacts to the minimum,” he added.
Al Zaabi revealed that the Government of Ras Al Khaimah had engaged a British University to research and document the ancient sites bypassed by the route.
“We are still considering options for a route change that would guarantee total protection of these sites,” he concluded.
