Egypt military court sentences militant Ashmawy to death

CAIRO, An Egyptian military court on Wednesday sentenced “terrorist” Hisham Ashmawy to death after convicting him of committing and orchestrating a number of attacks.

Ashmawy committed several crimes mainly partaking in targeting former interior minister Mohammad Ibrahim and commercial ships at Suez Canal in 2013, Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

He was also convicted of leading a terrorist group and carrying out an attack that killed 22 Egyptian military border guards near the border with Libya, the agency noted.

After this attack, Ashmawy infiltrated into Libya to join Ansar Al-Sharia group and later founded Al-Murabitoun group, an affiliated to Al-Qaeda.
