BRUSSELS, The European Union Friday emphasized its support to the UN process to resolve the crisis in Libya and to work for a better future for all in the country.
The EU position was expressed ahead of the International Conference for Libya hosted by the Italian Government in Palermo on 12-13 November in which the EU will be represented by High Representative Federica Mogherini.
The Conference aims to demonstrate the international community’s full support for the implementation of the United Nations Action Plan on Libya and the efforts of UN Special Representative Ghassan Salame to overcome the political stalemate in Libya, said a statement released by Mogherini’s office in Brussels today.
The Conference will discuss prospects for a political settlement, elections, economic and institutional reforms as well as the creation of viable and accountable security institutions.
The EU as Libya’s main humanitarian aid and cooperation donor and economic partner supports the development of the full economic and human potential of Libya, it added.
