EU welcomes formation of transitional gov’t in South Sudan

BRUSSELS The European Union Saturday welcomed the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity in South Sudan today as “a key step towards peace.” “The European Union appreciates that difficult decisions were made by the parties to the peace agreement to reach this stage,” said Virginie BattuHenriksson, an EU spokesperson for foreign and security affairs, in a statement tonight.

“This transitional period should now begin in a spirit of collaboration and compromise,” said the statement.

The European Union looks forward to expanding and deepening its partnership with South Sudan during the transitional period, it added.
