Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah underlined the importance Sunday of hosting Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq (KICRI) and hosting coalition Conference against so-called Islamic State (IS), which reflects on Kuwait’s commitment in supporting Iraq.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said, in a press conference held on the sidelines of the opening of the media center, that Kuwait step in hosting these events comes as an interpretation to the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the work to support Iraq, and stand by its side, calling at the same time on all friendly countries as well as international organizations, including non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to meet in Kuwait and support Kuwait’s efforts in rebuilding Iraq.
The minister added that this comes in line with the principled stance of the State of Kuwait to stand by neighboring Iraq, congratulating at the same time Iraq on its recent victories in liberating its territory from the grip of the so-called IS, which was a danger not only to the region but also to the whole world.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said that such broad participation to these events gives it a great importance and is a message from the international community regarding its commitment to the security and stability of Iraq and its commitment to the reconstruction of liberated areas.
The minister noted that KICRI will hold its main session on February 14 to evaluate the support provided to Iraq’s development, investment, and projects in Iraq, especially with the participation of more than 74 entities, countries, financial and monetary institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
Prior to the main session, sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled pointed out that a series of working meetings starting Monday will take place on February 12, with a meeting dedicated to civil society organizations with the participation of more than 72 local, regional and international organizations.
The minister added that tomorrow there will also be a meeting which will include a high-level delegation of experts to discuss the plan for the reconstruction of Iraq, with participation of more than 75 countries, national and regional institutions.
On February 13 a working session will be allocated to the private sector with the participation of 1,850 organizations, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said, adding on the same day a ministerial meeting for the International Coalition against IS with the participation of 75 countries and regional and international organizations.
The minister expressed his wishes that these conferences, efforts and activities will achieve its intended objectives, adding that since “they have made tremendous efforts to win in time of war, we all must exert greater efforts to win in time of peace.
