Foreign Minister: The Arab League is the home of all member states

Baghdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Ali al-Hakim stressed that the Arab League is the home of all member states, in which solutions should be formulated for all crises and challenges facing the march of our countries, especially at the present time, which witnesses multiple crises in a number of Arab countries About confronting terrorist organizations and threatening security.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed al-Sahaf said in a statement that al-Hakim met with Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and discussed the efforts of the Secretary-General in following up the implementation of resolutions related to Iraq, and stressed the importance of the League’s continued support for Iraq’s efforts in confronting terrorism.

As part of the reconstruction process following the defeat of ISIS, al-Hakim called the secretary-general of the Arab League for “urging the Arab countries that made pledges to Iraq at the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq to fulfill them.”

Al-Hakim pointed out the importance of Iraq getting its merits in sharing Iraqi expertise within the cadres of the Arab League General Secretariat, and called for expediting the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the General Secretariat on amortizing 75% of Iraq’s debts within the support funds provided to Arab countries.

Al-Hakim expressed the aspiration of Iraq to contribute the efforts of the Secretary-General of the Arab League in promoting solidarity among the various Arab countries in order to serve the Arab process.

He stressed that the Arab League should play an active role in ending regional tensions and resolving the crises suffered by some Arab countries, including Syria, Yemen and Libya.

Al-Hakim and Aboul Gheit discussed ending the Syrian crisis by adopting dialogue, a political solution that leads to stabilization and the return of Syria to its seat in the Arab League.

They affirmed the necessity of ending the war in Yemen, stopping the suffering of the human people and providing assistance to alleviate the daily damage suffered in it. In the Libyan affairs, the Minister pointed out Iraq’s stance in support of the political solution efforts and the elimination of terrorist organizations. He expressed his condemnation and rejection of the Israeli bombardment of a number of Arab countries, which represents a blatant attack, indicating that Iraq will take all available legal means; to stand in the face of such attacks and violations and to preserve the security of the country and the integrity of its territory.

With regard to Iraq’s position on the International Coalition for Gulf Security, and the participation of the Zionist entity, he reiterated his position rejecting the participation of the Zionist entity in any military activities in the region, and that Gulf security is a participatory security carried out by all countries bordering the Gulf.

Al-Hakim expressed his hope that efforts will be focused on strengthening Arab action in facing the challenges facing the Arab countries at the present stage, and thus contributing to preserving their capabilities, in the hope of finding political solutions to the existing crises in a way that preserves the unity and sovereignty of the Arab countries and achieves economic prosperity.
