France regrets US decision to withdraw from UN Human Rights Council

France on Wednesday said it regretted the decision of the United States to withdraw from the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council.

A statement from the Foreign Ministry said that the US had played an important role in the Council over time and had contributed to building a system of protection for human rights since WWII.

“We hope thus that the United States will reconsider its decision,” Paris said.

France reiterated its attachment to the United Nations bodies and particularly the Human Rights Council, which the US criticized for any-Israeli bias because of its strong statements against the repression of Palestinians.
