French, Turkish leaders discuss military strikes in Syria

PARIS, April French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday discussed the results of military strikes against Syria with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In a statement, French Elysee Palace said that Macron thanked Turkey for supporting the military operation against chemical installations in Syria.

He affirmed his readiness to continue joint action with Turkey against the impunity for the use of chemical weapons, and to allow setting up a neutral mechanism at the United Nations, according to the statement.

Macron stressed his resolve to strengthen France’s action to assist civilians in light of the gravity of humanitarian situation in Syria.

He voiced his hope for intensifying dialogue with Turkey during the upcoming days to reach a comprehensive political resolution in Syria, the statement noted.
