Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh has apprised the cabinet off the latest preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections and the precautionary measures taken to ensure safety of voters amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Al-Saleh, also minister of state for cabinet affairs and chairman of the committee in charge of preparing for the election, told the cabinet its meeting today that the committee has taken all required measures to allow voters to cast their ballots safely and smoothly and to avoid the spread of the virus during the election day.
On Wednesday, Chairman of Kuwait Municipality and head of the joint parliamentary election committee Ahmad Al-Manfouhi said that five teams have been formed to inspect polling stations to make sure that all health ministry instructions have been implemented.
He added that the teams would also ensure that all sanitizing materials were available at polling stations in the election day.
In the meantime, Minister of Health Sheikh Bassel Al-Sabah updated the cabinet about the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in Kuwait. A team comprising Health Ministry Undersecretary for Public Health Dr. Bothina Al-Mudhaf and several senior ministry officials informed the cabinet about their latest assessment about the epidemiological situation in Kuwaiti hospitals and medical centers and the factors that could increase the chances of the virus spread in hospitals. In light of the recent surge in number of infections and related deaths worldwide, the health ministry officials underlined the need for firm commitment to the preventive measures, particularly social distances rules, banning of gatherings, wearing of facemasks, self-hygiene and isolation and treatment of infected people to help curb the spread of the deadly virus.
