Iran discovers large oil field

TEHRAN, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that a 2,400 square kilometers oil field was discovered in Khuzestan, southwestern Iran.

“We have discovered a new big oil field with 53 billion barrels of reserves,” Rouhani said in his speech to the people of Yazd. Excerpts of his statement were broadcast by the official news agency, IRNA.

Rouhani said the oil field stretches from Bostan to Omidieh — with the capacity of 53 billion barrels.

He said that the “US should know that Iran is a rich country and despite animosity and cruel sanctions, Iranian workers and engineers discovered a new oil field.” The United States has imposed sanctions on parties and states that trade in the Iranian crude oil. The curbs were re-imposed after Washington unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal that had been workd out between Tehran and major powers.
