Iran’s thrilling 1-0 victory over Morocco in injury time took the team to leadership of Group B temporarily on Friday.
The teams, playing in Saint Petersburg Stadium, were relentless in their attacks but failed to pose real threat.
However, Morocco’s Aziz Bouhaddouz tried to remove Ehsan Haji Safi’s free kick but his header diverted the ball into his own goal in the 95th minute.
Morocco had more possession or the ball throughout the match, around 70 percent, against some 30 percent for the Iranians, with the playing time almost in the midfield.
Morocco is in a difficult spot following its dramatic defeat. The team will be plaing against Spain and Portugal, all in Group B.
