RAMALLAH, Dozens of Palestinians were injured in Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Sunday when clashes erupted between worshippers and Israeli forces on the first day of Eid Al-Adha.
“There are some injuries inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque and our crews are dealing with them after worshipers were attacked with rubber bullets, gas, and sound bombs,” said Palestinians Red Crescent Society in a statement.
A number of ambulances belonging to the Red Crescent were at Bab al-Asbat to transport any injuries to hospitals, the statement added.
Large number of Israeli forces raided the courtyards of Al-Aqsa at a time when more than 100,000 worshipers, gathered for Eid prayers.
On Friday, Palestinian authorities called for the closure of all Jerusalem mosques for Al-Aqsa mosque prayers and announced the delay of the prayer by one hour to counter attempts to storm Al-Aqsa by extremist groups.
Dozens of settlers stormed the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa mosque all week, except on Friday, Saturday and Eid Al-Fitr.
Extremist Jewish groups have demanded admission to Al-Aqsa today despite the Eid Prayers.
