TEHRAN, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono on Wednesday said his country is willing to take part in resolving the current tension in the Middle East region.
In a statement quoted by IRNA, the official Iranian news agency during a meeting with Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, Kono affirmed that defusing the tension “is best for the good of all countries in the region.” On his part, Zarif noted the strong Iranian-Japanese relations dating back to over 90 years. He added that the US is promoting “hate speech” against his country.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also arrived in Tehran earlier today on the first such visit since 40 years. It aims to discuss boosting bilateral ties and resolving the issues between Tehran and Washington.
Tension between the two sides has been rising since Washington withdrew from the nuclear deal and re-imposed economic sanctions on Tehran.
