AMMAN The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign and Expatiate Affairs on Monday condemned as illegal the Israeli government decision to build a rail link between Tel Aviv and the occupied Palestinian city of Jerusalem.
The unilateral plan to build the rail link and station in East Jerusalem is a flagrant violation of the international law, the humanitarian law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations and the UNESCO, the ministry’s spokesman Dhaifullah Al Fayez said in a press release.
As an occupying force, Israel is supposed to be bound by international laws to protect the nature and identity of East Jerusalem, and respect the legal and historical status quo of the holy city, Al Fayez pointed out.
UN resolutions have defined East Jerusalem as occupied territory since 1967, he reminded, urging the international community to shoulder is responsibility for halting Israel’s illegal and illegitimate practices.
