Jordan, Britain to promote bilateral economic relations

Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and British Minister of State for the Middle East Alistair Burt on Sunday stressed the importance of developing relations between their countries.

The two ministers discussed bilateral ties, focusing on economy, trade and defense, as well as regional developments, mainly Palestinian and Syrian, the Foreign Ministry said in Amman,.

They reiterated the necessity of intensifying efforts to develop political solutions for crises in the region.

In addition, the chief diplomats underscored the prime importance of alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and the necessity to deliver living, medical and humanitarian aid to them.

A solution to the crisis in Gaza is “political” through dissolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on basis of the two-state settlement, the statement said.

In addition, the two ministers discussed the financial crisis facing the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and considered continuation of international support to the agency a necessity.
