IRBIL, Kurdistan,- Kuwait has continued providing humanitarian aid to the displaced Iraqi people in the Kurdistan Region.
Up to 5,400 food baskets were distributed on Sunday, to the internally displaced persons in the region, Kuwait’s Consul General in Irbil, Dr. Omar Al-Kandari, told KUNA.
The consulate is keen on delivering humanitarian aid to the displaced, in all cities of the region, mainly those who are in a dire need of assistance, he said.
This aid is part of a new phase which includes about 50,000 food baskets that cover a large number of the displaced, he noted.
He stressed that, Kuwait’s aid to Iraqis translates the humanitarian initiative by the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, aiming to alleviate suffering of the displaced who fled their homes because of terrorist threats, hoping that they would return to their homes as soon as possible.
Kuwait will continue offering its aid to the displaced. It also includes healthy and educational assistance, as well as shelters and others, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Shaalan Al-Shammari, head of a civil society organisation, expressed his gratitude to Kuwait, for helping Iraqis who are in distress.
The aid has a key role in reducing suffering of the displaced, he said, calling for further assistance, to cover all of them.
Kuwait has been providing aid to Iraqis in Irbil since last year. It has handed out, so far, 13,000 food baskets to them.
