MANAMA, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Wednesday reiterated the depth of relationship with the Kingdom of Bahrain Addressing the 10th meeting of the joint committee in Manama, Sheikh Sabah Khaled said this meeting embodies the two countries’ common desire to further promote the historical ties under the wise directives of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, of Bahrain.

“Our meeting which is part of the joint committee comes at a time when the Kuwaiti-Bahraini ties have a flourishing stage on all levels and domains,” he said.

These solid bilateral ties started before the beginning of the diplomatic relations, he said, noting that both Kuwaiti and Bahraini nations have common desire and determination to work together.

Kuwait and Bahrain have identical views towards regional and international issues, he stated.

The meeting which is held at a time when the bilateral ties witness a big momentum aims to support and promote common interests in political, economic, investment, developmental and social fields, the minister said.

He pointed out that the two countries’ leaderships are keen to back these ties, out of their firm belief in the importance and necessity of working together to make all efforts in order to establish security and stability as well as achieve prosperity in the region in the interests of Gulf peoples.

Kuwait and Bahrain have been promoting their cooperation on the Gulf, Arab and international levels to maintain the region’s security and stability as well as keep away from foreign interferences or any attempts seeking to undermine the social unity, Sheikh Sabah Khaled told the committee.

He commended the historical stances of Bahrain’s leadership and people that supported Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion.

He also referred to care provided by the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Kuwaiti nationals during their stay on the Bahraini territory at that time.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the wisdom and vision of Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa towards the issues related to stability of the region and the blessed march of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which is highly appreciated by the State of Kuwait,” he said.

The two countries are on a new phase of fruitful and mutually beneficial economic cooperation, as Kuwait and Bahrain have signed 47 cooperative deals in various fields, he explained.

He went to say that these deals would be strengthened by the signing of eight additional memorandums of understanding and executive programs in various domains.

Such deals and memos will back strongly the path of the strong cooperation and integration in varied fields that open new horizons and push forward with development between the two brotherly countries, within the framework of the GCC objectives and principles, he made clear.

Both commercial and investment ties have witnessed development over the last years in the private and public sectors, he said.

The value of Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) hit more than KD 914 million (USD 3 billion) in 2018, he pointed out.

Several agreements were signed to finance some development projects valuated at USD 1.5 billion to be carried out by the two governments in Bahrain, he revealed.

Over 2018, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE made a collective decision to start executive steps of the program of supporting financial stability in Bahrain. The program is estimated at USD 10 billion, and this embodies the Gulf backing to the development path in GCC states, he stressed.

There are 64 flights between Kuwait and Bahrain per week; 13 for Kuwait Airways, 42 for Gulf Air and nine for Jazeera Airways, he said. The Kuwaiti minister finally thanked Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled bin Hamad Al-Khalifa and officials for making a successful meeting of the joint committee.
