KUWAIT TO ENSURE SUCCESS OF GULF FOOTBALL CUP: PM

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait- Kuwaiti Prime Minister, Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, promised, Kuwait will do its best, to ensure the success of the Gulf Cup of Nations, between Dec 22 and Jan 5.

He made the remarks in a phone call, with the Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Anas Al-Saleh.

During the phone conversation, the Prime Minister inquired about preparations and arrangements for the championship, stressing that, all relevant obstacles should be wiped out.

Voicing full confidence in the organising committee, he called for exerting all necessary efforts, in order to ensure a successful Gulf football cup.

The Gulf Cup attracts football teams from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Yemen and Kuwait.

The Gulf Cup of Nations or Arabian Gulf Cup is an international association football tournament, originally for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, currently held on a biennial basis, rotating the host city every edition.

The first Gulf Cup tournament took place in 1970, and was won by the Kuwaiti team.

Despite not being part of the GCC, Iraq and Yemen have since joined the tournament, to make eight participating teams each year.
