Kuwaiti FM arrives in Brussels for EU-Arab ministerial

BRUSSELS, Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in Brussels Sunday evening to participate in the fifth European Union-Arab ministerial meeting to take place in the Belgian capital on Monday.

Kuwait’s ambassador to the EU, Belgium, NATO and Luxembourg, Jassem Al Budaiwi, and other diplomats from the embassy welcomed the foreign minister, who is accompanied by a delegation, at the airport.

According to an EU statement released last week, the meeting will prepare for the first EU-Arab summit to take place in Egypt on 24-25 February, as well as discuss Arab-Europe ties and regional issues.

“The meeting is expected to express the commitment to deepen the Euro-Arab partnership to build peace and stability, guarantee security, foster economic, social and technological development, as well as to further strengthen and promote multilateralism and a rules-based order,” note the EU statement released last Thursday.

Monday’s meeting will be co-chaired by Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Al-Dirdiri Mohammad Ahmad, Foreign Minister of Sudan (currently holding the Presidency of the Arab League) and Ahmad Abul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League.
