BEIRUT, Lebanese President Michel Aoun decided Sunday to extend until next week the ultimatum for parliamentary consultations on a nominee for prime minister.
Given the latest developments and acting on the will of the majority of political parties, the President put off the consultations originally slated for tomorrow until Monday, December 16, according to a press release from the presidential office tonight.
The move aims to give more time for the different parties to pick a mutually acceptable nominee, the statement noted.
The postponement come a few hours after the prime minister-designate Samir Al-Khatib announced apologized for not taking the task of forming a new government following his meeting with the Grand Mufti Abdullatif Derian.
