Lebanon condemns Israeli breach inside its territory

BEIRUT, The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants on Friday condemned Israel’s construction of a wall and settlements inside Lebanese territory at an area near the border.

“It is better for the Security Council to meet and the international community to deal with this clear and frank violation of Resolution 1701 as it did with the complaint made by the Israeli enemy,” the Lebanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said after a meeting of the Supreme Council of Defense, which was held Thursday to discuss the breach, that he had instructed the Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the UN to file a complaint before the Security Council regarding the Israeli violations of land that threaten southern Lebanon.

Resolution 1701, issued following the Israeli attack on Lebanon in 2006, affirms the unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon within its internationally recognized borders as set forth in the Israeli-Lebanese Armistice Agreement of March 23, 1949.
