Speaking at the first meeting of the new cabinet at the Presidential Palace, Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the new ministers on board, telling the Cabinet as a whole that ” Expectations are great, trust in you is high, the priorities are crystal clear and the people of UAE deserve the best.” Sheikh Mohammed instructed the ministers to work as one team, setting the improvement of government services as the No 1 priority in agenda of their ministries.
”We work with the spirit of one team with a common vision, one president…….. and development of services provided to citizens will be the top priority,” the Vice President affirmed.
During the meeting, the first of the UAE’s tenth cabinet, Sheikh Mohammed stressed the need to address and overcome national challenges.
”The success of the government will be measured by the society and satisfaction of people is an end that can be realised ……. the homeland will only make progress when tremendous challenges have been addressed and met.” Before the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed met former minister of energy Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hamili and thanked him for the distinguished efforts he made in the service of his nation as an active member of the cabinet.
”The homeland will never forget dedication of its loyal children nor the marks they left on its development drive. The expertise that accumulated over the years will be a reliable asset for the nation which can be used in the service of the nation through new fields and roles,” Sheikh Mohammed added.
He wished Al Hamili success in his life and future career in serving his homeland.
During the session, the Cabinet approved the restructuring of the Ministerial Council of Services under the presidency of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
Among the line up of appointments and changes in federal entities, the Cabinet approved the appointing of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, as Chairman of General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare and head of the National Council of Tourism and Antiquities.
Minister of Public Works Dr. Abdullah Al Nuaimi was confirmed as chairman of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme and of the National Transport Authority.
The Cabinet also approved the appointment of Minister of Energy Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouie as chairman of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA). Minister of State Abdullah bin Mohammed Gobash was named chairman of the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (TANMIA).
The Cabinet approved formation of a temporary committee headed by Ahmed Al Humairi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, to devise a comprehensive strategy for development of the telecommunications sector within one year. The committee will report to the Cabinet.
The committee was set up to keep abreast of the fast changes in the vital sector and rapid growth rates which need more investment and developments. The resolution also calls for aligning the telecommunications sector strategy to the UAE Vision 2021.
The Cabinet also passed a federal draft law presented by the Ministry of Social Affairs on regulations regarding government and private nurseries. The legislation will set occupational health, environment and safety requirements and standards to ensure social care for toddlers. The federal draft law will also define standards of these nurseries and qualifications of staff.
The private sector has 354 nurseries against 21 in the government sector.
