RABAT, Morocco on Saturday rescued 247 illegal immigrants across the Mediterranean, mostly from sub-Saharan Africa.
The Royal Moroccan Navy helped 247 illegal immigrants who had difficulty navigating on traditional boats to reach European shores, the Moroccan news agency quoted a military source as saying.
The source pointed out that most of the migrants come from sub-Saharan Africa, noting that women and children are among them.
The rescued people were given first aid aboard the Coast Guard units before being transported safely to the northern ports of the kingdom, the source added.
Morocco’s northern coast is a springboard for thousands of illegal immigrants, both Moroccans and from sub-Saharan Africa, to cross into Spanish shores.
