Moscow raps Washington over anti-Venezuela threats

MOSCOW, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday Washington’s threat of using force against Venezuela undermines international law.

Lavrov was quoted by Russia’s Tass news agency as saying in Bishkek that Washington wants to topple the Venezuelan regime by force.

The Russian foreign minister even lashed out at the European Union (EU) for following the US in warning Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and setting up a relevant committee without consulting Russia and China.

However, he vowed that his country would continue defending the basics and principles of international law, voicing support to suggestions made by Mexico and Uruguay in this regard.

France, Spain, Austria, Britain, Sweden and Denmark have already recognized Guaido as Venezuela’s interim president.
