LONDON, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt on Friday said Parliament’s rejection of the Brexit deal could lead to preventing the UK from leaving the EU.
Sky News quoted Hunt as saying that if MPs vote against the deal next Tuesday, this would cripple the Brexit path and drive the country into a political crisis.
Such a scenario leads “us to believe that Britain can not come out after all this effort from the European bloc,” he said, warning that this is a retreat from the democratic option expressed by the results of the referendum in June 2016.
Hunt’s statement came after Labor Party, the largest opposition party in the parliament, announced its intention to vote against the draft agreement on Tuesday.
Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said priority should be given to a general election and not to an agreement that did not meet the people’s demands.
