Nine immigration seekers perish at sea off Spain

MADRID, Nine people seeking immigration in Europe have perished at sea when their boat capsized, the official Spanish television said on Thursday.

Civil guards found five human corpses today after locating four others last night, the television said, indicating that all of them were Moroccans.

The boat boarding the immigration seekers turned over due to strong winds near the Canary Islands in the Atlantic waters.

Authorities are searching for possible survivors or other unlucky ones.

Spanish authorities, last year, rescued more than 50,000 immigration seekers in territorial waters, in addition to 10,000 others since start of this year.
