OIC SEC-GEN CONGRATULATES KUWAIT, COTE D’IVOIRE ELECTION TO UNSC

Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General, Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, congratulated two member states, Kuwait and Cote d’Ivoire, which were elected as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2018-2019.

In an OIC statement, he said that the election of the two countries testified to the significant contribution they have been making to peace and security at the regional and international levels.

Al-Othaimeen also expressed confidence that Kuwait and Cote d’Ivoire will avail their position at the UNSC to further the interests of the OIC and its member states.

This is the third time for Cote d’Ivoire to be elected to the council, and the second for Kuwait.

The UNSC comprises five permanent members namely China, France, Russia, the UK and the US, as well as ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms by the General Assembly
