ISLAMABAD, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Abbasi arrived in Afghanistan Friday on a day-long visit upon the invitation of Afghan President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani.
It is Abbasi’s first visit to Afghanistan, where he is scheduled to hold consultations with the President and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.
The talks will focus on matters of mutual interest, including strengthening bilateral political, economic, security, and counter-terrorism cooperation.
The return of Afghan refugees, anti-drugs production and narco-trade, Afghan peace process, and regional political and security situation will also be addressed, said a statement by the Pakistani foreign ministry.
Abbasi’s visit comes in the backdrop of Pakistan’s support to President Ghani’s offer of peace talks with the Taliban rebels.
