Pompeo lauds Saudi “partnership” across regional, bilateral issues

WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met Tuesday with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir during which he thanked him for Saudi Arabia’s “continued partnership” with the US across many regional and bilateral issues.

State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement that on Yemen, Pompeo “expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s help in facilitating an agreement” between the Yemeni Government and the Southern Transitional Council.

They agreed that this was “an important step to move toward a comprehensive political solution to the conflict in Yemen.” Pompeo and Al-Jubeir also discussed recent developments in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon and “the need to continue countering the Iranian regime’s destabilizing behavior.” Meanwhile, Pompeo tweeted on his meeting with Al-Jubeir and reiterated “grateful for Saudi Arabia’s help facilitating agreement” between the Yemeni sides, “an important step toward a political solution.”
