MOSCOW, Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday that his country has handed over S-300 missiles to Syria.
On Monday, Russia completed delivery of S-300 missile system, including 49 units: radars, control systems and four missile launchpads, Shoigu said in a speech made during Russia’s national council meeting. The meeting was presided over by President Vladimir Putin.
The Russian side had enhanced cyber war tools with additional equipment which ensures the coverage of 200 kms, he noted.
Preparing the Syrian teams to deal with the new system will take three months, he said.
On September 20, Putin ordered providing Syria with this system, few days after a Russian aircraft was shot down in Syria’s Latakia Province, in an attack blamed on Israeli forces.
Fifteen Russian personnel were killed when their plane was accidentally downed.
