JEDDAH, The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces have intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by Yemeni Houthi rebels towards the Saudi southern city of Jizan.
In a press statement, Spokesman for Coalition Forces Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen Colonel Turki Al-Malki said the air defense forces spotted at 09:31 p.m. (local time) the launching of a ballistic missile by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia from the northern Yemeni governorate of Saada towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The missile, deliberately fired towards civilian and populated areas in Jizan city, was intercepted and destroyed by the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces, he pointed out.
He noted that fragments of the destroyed missile fell on the city’s residential neighborhoods.
No human or material damage was reported until the time of preparing this statement, he stated.
Colonel Al-Malki said that this hostile action by Houthis proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the armed militia with qualitative capabilities in a clear and explicit violation of UN Resolutions No. 2216 and No. 2231.
He added that these practices were meant to threaten the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as the regional and international security.
