Saudi Arabia mobilizes resources to control Red Sea oil spill

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection (GAMEP) reactivated the national plan for combating oil leakage after an Iranian oil tanker was reportedly hit by missiles in the Red Sea off Jeddah yesterday.

The Authority said in a statement on Saturday that it was assessing the damage caused to marine environment along the Kingdom’s coastline due to the incident and will take all necessary measures in this regard.

Earlier today, spokesman of the General Directorate of Border Guard said the Jeddah radio station received a message from captain of the Iranian oil tanker, Sabiti, saying that the missile attack caused fire at the vessel and an oil spill.
