Ships line up for NAVDEX 2013

WAM ABU DHABI: Nine visiting vessels arrived in Abu Dhabi today to take part in the Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX), which will run from Sunday, February 17th to Thursday, February 21st at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC).

The expanded ADNEC quay wall will allow capacity to host six visiting vessels from five nations, an increase from the three on display in 2011. The United States, Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Pakistan have brought a range of mine hunters, missile corvettes and multi supply ships to help showcase technologies from the respective nations. The visiting vessels will be joined by a collection of United Arab Emirates ships on rotation throughout the exhibition.

“We are pleased to welcome these vessels to NAVDEX, the premier Maritime Security exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa,” said Naval Staff Colonel Nasir Al Yafei. “They showcase the latest technologies in the sector and allow us to exchange ideas and best practices.” Visiting vessels include the 60 metre USS Chinook Cyclone Class coastal patrol boat from the U.S., the HMS Shorham and HMS Ramsey 52.5 metre mine hunter vessels from the UK, the French FS L’adroit 87 metre Gowend class patrol vessel, one 88.6 metre ITS Camandanti Cigala Fulgosi vessel from Italy, and one PNS Jurrat, Jurrat class missile boat from Pakistan.
