KUALA LUMPUR, Philippine troops and armed rebels clashed on eastern Samar island resulting in death of six soldiers and injury of 20 others, police said on Tuesday.
At least one armed gunman was killd in the 30-minute firefight, the police said, indicating that the bloody incident happened when the regulars were poised for conducting mock battles.
President Rodrigo Duetre ordered the government forces to crush the rebellion by the “New People’s Army” during his mandate, expiring by 2022.
These Communist mutineers have been battling the government forces since 1969.
