ISLAMABAD, At least 10 people were killed and 42 others wounded in a suicide car bomb attack in Afghan capital city Kabul on Thursday, Afghan Ministry of Interior said Thursday.
The suicide attack took place in Shash Darak area near a National Directorate of Security (NDS) checkpoint in the heavily fortified area, adjacent to the Green Zone which houses the US Embassy and other diplomatic missions.
The deadly bombing claimed lives of at least 10 people and injured 42 others, confirmed Afghan MOI spokesman Nasrat Rahimi.
The area was blocked to traffic by the security forces and rescue teams have shifted the injured to the nearest medical facilities.
According to local media, Taliban rebels have claimed responsibility of the attack which has been holding peace talks with the United States in Qatar, Doha.
The attack came days after United States Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad briefed the Afghan government on a proposed agreement “in principle” with Taliban group that would see withdrawal of 5,000 US troops from Afghanistan within five months.
Earlier on Monday, at least 16 people including foreigners were killed and 119 others were wounded in a truck bomb attack in Kabul targeting a compound housing aid agencies and international organizations.
