Tehran condemns EU’s sanctions against security services

TEHRAN, Iran on Wednesday strongly condemned European sanctions against one of its security services for alleged involvement in plotting and implementing assassinations inside Europe.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said in a statement: “Instead of putting the names of such criminal and terrorist groups as the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) and Al-Ahvaziya on its list of sanctions, the European Union (EU) has given them a free hand to commit inhumane terrorist acts and is even supporting them.” Qassemi described the EU sanctions as “illogical and surprising”.

The sanctions included two Iranian individuals and a unit of the Iranian intelligence services to the bloc’s terror list.
