ANKARA, Turkey’s army Wednesday began a ground offensive as part of the “Operation Peace Spring” in northern Syria, the Turkish Defense Ministry said.
The Turkish troops, along with the Syrian National Army, carried out the operation against the terrorists, including the so-called Islamic State and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and others, the ministry added in a statement.
Turkey carried out the operation in northern Syria to secure its borders by eliminating terror elements, and ensure the safe return of the Syrian refugees to their homes, it noted.
The Turkish move was widely condemned by Arab and non-Arab countries.
