ANKARA, Turkish courts have issued prison sentences against 41 heads of municipalities for supporting terrorism, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Tuesday.
Anadolu news agency quoted an MoI statement as saying 41 municipalities’ chiefs out of 94 others received over 237 years in prison sentences.
The ministry said it fired the 94 municipalities’ chiefs before the local elections and accused them of supporting terrorism.
The ministry did not elaborate on the trials.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed last February to dismiss municipalities’ chief who have links with, or support, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party.
