WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with Germany?’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas to reaffirm the two nations?’ strong commitment to the transatlantic partnership and to discuss key shared priorities, the State Department said Thursday.
During their meeting yesterday, Pompeo thanked Maas for Germany?’s partnership with the US and allies in “standing up to” Russian aggression.
They also discussed the upcoming North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit, and agreed NATO was essential to countering global threats, the State Department said in a statement. Pompeo and the German Foreign Minister also discussed approaches to “countering Iranian aggression and supporting the Iranian people,” and agreed to stay in close contact as the address global challenges together.
