UAE has established excellence in health care as vital to development and progress: Nahyan

WAM Abu Dhabi, 25th April 2013 (WAM) — The United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and with the strong support of the His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has established excellence in health care as vital to national efforts for development and progress,” said Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

”We have realized the importance of understanding and respecting various cultural values and the advantage of presenting vaccines and the need for them in a clear and convincing fashion. We have recognized that successful immunization programs require immense commitment, understanding, persistence, and genuine concern about the health of absolutely everyone,” Sheikh Nahyan told the ongoing Global Vaccine Summit in Abu Dhabi.

”We have reaped the benefits of those attributes, and we feel a responsibility to help other nations capitalize on those same attributes. We cannot have a world divided into the sick and the well because of custom, habits, or lack of understanding. Nor can we allow absence of funding to be the cause of such a division.” ”We know that prosperity can bring better health. We also know that a healthy population is fundamental to economic growth. Both public and private interests are at stake. Investment in health and education provides nations their greatest return. Investment in health takes priority. Our population must be fit and healthy. And every element of society must commit to that priority,” he added.

Bill and Melinda Gates, he noted, represent a dramatic private commitment, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed brings a major public commitment. That kind of public-private partnership paves the way to universal immunization.

”We are thankful for their wisdom and generosity. The participants in this Summit are the people who can make the most of their partnership.” ”We have the vaccine. Let us have the wit and will to administer it everywhere to everyone.

” The global community will not thrive if it fails to bring good health to all of its members. You have fittingly assembled for this Summit in a country that comprises a global community of its own and has acted in accord with your deep-felt convictions,” he said.
