Ukraine President’s Party wins big in parliamentary election

MOSCOW, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “Servant of the People” party scored record high win in the parliamentary election, said an election commission’s statement on Monday.

Zelensky’s Servant of the People party took 44 percent of the vote, while the pro-Moscow Opposition “Platform for Life” came second with 11.5 percent in Sunday’s election, added Central Election Commission of Ukraine in a statement.

Former President Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s party Batkivshchyna entered parliament with 8.9 and 7.6 percent of the vote, it noted.

In addition, the Golos (Voice) party led by Svyatoslav Vakarchuk took 6.3 percent of the vote.

The 424 of the 450 seats in Ukraine’s parliament will be filled this election, as the rest represent Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014.
