NEW YORK, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday condemned the terrorist attack that targeted the Libyan High National Elections Commission earlier in the say.
Guterres reiterated the UN’s commitment to implementing the action plan pertaining to Libya, spokesperson for Guterres said in a statement.
The UN chief expressed his appreciation to, and support for, key efforts made by his special representative to Libya Salama Ghassan who is working closely with all parties, according to the statement.
Guterres offered his condolences to the victims’ families and expressed his sympathy with the wounded.
At least 14 people, including the bombers, were killed in the attack carried out at the commission’s headquarters at dawn. Several others were wounded in the assault.
The commission was registering the names of voters before holding new election that the US hopes it would be held in the country by the end of this year.
