US applauds Facebook’s decision to close divisive foreign accts

The US applauded Facebook’s decision to expunge accounts, orchestrated from abroad that were created to stir division and violence in the US as part of a broader campaign aimed to weaken America, the State Department said Wednesday.

“These efforts are part of a broader external campaign aimed at weakening America and threatening our way of life by pitting citizens against each other and sowing discord in general,” Spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement. “We urge all technology companies to take an aggressive approach to this insidious problem.” She also demanded that Russia and “all other malign actors cease this reckless behavior.” “The United States will not tolerate foreign, including Russian, attempts to subvert our democratic processes and institutions,” Nauert added.
