US Democrats sue, alleging Russia, Trump team, WikiLeaks conspired to hurt party

WASHINGTON, A lawsuit filed in Manhattan by the Democratic Party alleges Russia, the Donald Trump presidential campaign and WikiLeaks conspired to hurt Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton and aid Trump.

The Democratic National Committee alleges in the suit that Trump campaign officials conspired with the Russian government to disrupt the US elections by hacking Democratic Party computer networks and disseminating the stolen data.

The multimillion-dollar lawsuit was filed in federal district court.

The filing says that Russia’s hacking campaign was combined with Trump associates’ Russia contacts, and the Trump team then publicly applauded the hacks and leaks.

This action was an illegal conspiracy that interfered in the election and caused serious damage to the Democratic Party, the suit says.

US Senate investigators and special counsel Robert Mueller are investigating whether Trump associates coordinated with the Russian actions.
